AKA Biography:

Early Life

Cape Town is the birthplace and upbringing of Kiernan Jarryd Forbes. It wasn’t long after he and his friends started a hip-hop group named Entity before it became well-known in the music industry. They received a nomination for the KORA All Africa Music Awards in the Best African Hip-Hop category. Forbes did not let the group’s 2006 breakup to stop him from pursuing a career in music and continued his studies in sound engineering. He worked with a group of musicians, producing tracks for JR, Khuli Chana, and ProKid, among other hip-hop acts. He continued to work on his music, releasing three singles in 2009: “Mistakes,” “In My Walk,” and “I Do.”

Career

These established and solidified AKA’s sound in the music business. Lead singles “All I Know” and “Victory Lap” were pre-released a year later and went on to become hits, paving the way for his debut album “Altar Ego.” After being released on August 23, 2011, the album was awarded gold due to its enormous success. On June 30, 2014, he released his second album, “Levels,” from which the pre-released songs “Jealousy,” “Kontrol,” “Congratulate,” and “Run Jozi” were taken. It became double platinum, which greatly increased AKA’s notoriety and impact.

The third and fourth albums, “Be Careful What You Wish For” and “Touch My Blood,” which were later released, were the result of a cooperation with Anatii on the former. His release of “Touch My Blood” on June 15, 2018, brought him great popularity due to his partnerships with Nigerian producer Kiddominant and other African musicians such as L-Tido, Yanga Chief, Kwesta & Okmalumkoolkat, and others. He published an extended play called “Bhovamania” in 2021.

Personal Life

His fiancée, Nelli Tembe, died after an unlucky occurrence at a hotel, bringing tragedy into his life. Even though it was a difficult period, he kept on creating songs until his sudden passing on February 10, 2023.
