Andrew Banks Biography: Andrew Richard Banks (born 30 November 1951) is a financier and film producer of English and Australian descent. He co-founded the staffing firm Morgan & Banks and the HR business process outsourcing company Talent2 International. He was one of the ‘Sharks’ on the TV show Shark Tank.

Banks was born as the fifth of six brothers in Lambeth, London, England. His father was a staff sergeant in the British Army’s Medical Corps. His mother was born in Vienna and raised in Gdansk, Poland; she spoke six languages fluently.

Banks attended the local selective state grammar school and became involved in amateur dramatic productions following the family’s 1961 relocation to Chichester. Having attained ten ‘O’ Levels and four ‘A’ Levels, he was accepted to several UK institutions and chose London University for Science. Banks completed an additional year and a half of exams in Applied Biology before beginning a part-time job selling paintings door-to-door. He rapidly rose through the ranks of the company, becoming a supervisor in charge of ten teams. Simultaneously, he employed two individuals to sell fashionable ‘Carnaby Street-style’ t-shirts in the university cafeteria, utilising his acting experience for voiceover work.

Andrew Banks arrived in Sydney, Australia in 1972 as a ‘Ten Pound Pom’; his university degree was put on pause after an Australian colleague provided a sponsor that allowed him to migrate to Australia as part of the final stages of its Assisted Passage Migration Scheme.

Australian actor Andrew Banks began his career at the Old Tote Theatre Company before purchasing the Red Pavilion Bar and Restaurant in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. He later pursued a career in human resources and recruiting, working for Elf Aquitaine and Brown and Root. In 1985, he established the recruitment firm Morgan & Banks, which grew to control 17% of the market in Australia and Asia. In 1999, Morgan & Banks amalgamated with TMP/Monster, a NASDAQ-listed company in the United States. Banks founded Talent2 International in 2003 as an ASX-listed HR outsourcing and executive recruitment and selection firm. Before Allegis Group Inc. privatised Talent2 in 2012, the company operated in twenty countries. Banks served as the company’s Search Practise Advisor until July 2015. Since 1988, he has invested in numerous enterprises in Australia, including real estate development, residential hotels, and businesses such as Krispy Kreme Australia. As Chairman of the NIDA Foundation Trust and founding partner and producer of production company Lila 9th Productions, Banks is also interested in film and theatre.
