The senator also has strong ties with PML-N and PPP, two mainstream political parties. Saturday, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement announcing the selection of the lawmaker as the eighth interim chief of government.

The decision was reached after a second round of consultations between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Opposition Leader Raja Riaz, and President Arif Alvi has endorsed a summary to this effect. Both the PML-N and PPP had previously stated that a politician could be appointed to the coveted position.
