Bob Barker Biography: Born on December 12, 1923, Robert William Barker, better known around the world as Bob Barker, is a retired television host from the United States. The Price is Right was the longest-running daytime game show in American television history, hosted by him from 1972 to 2007. Bob Barker, whose real name is Robert William Barker, was born in Darrington, Washington, on December 12, 1923, into a lowly family. The majority of his early years were spent at the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, South Dakota. His father, Byron John Barker, was a foreman of the high power line in the state of Washington, and his mother, Matilda Valandra, taught in schools.
He saw an Ella Fitzgerald concert in town when he was fifteen and met Dorothy Jo Gideon, his wife. Barker later studied at Springfield, Missouri’s Drury College, which is now Drury University.
Barker did not see active duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II, despite his enlistment. He was a part-time radio worker while he was in college. He relocated to California in 1950 to pursue a career in radio. The Bob Barker Show, his radio program, was broadcast for six years. In 1956, he started hosting Truth or Consequences, a game show.
Before long, Barker hosted a number of programs and was named the longest-serving host of the Miss Universe and Miss U.S.A. pageants, having done so from 1967 to 1987. He became an animal rights activist and supporter of organizations like United Animal Rights Activists and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society after his wife, who was 57 at the time, passed away from lung cancer in 1981. In 1972, he began hosting The Price is Right, quickly becoming well-known and a vital component of the program. Thirty-five years later, in 2007, he announced his retirement following his 50th anniversary on television.
Sadly, Barker passed away from Alzheimer’s in August of 2023.

In order to establish a monkey sanctuary, Barker purchased 460 acres in California. In addition, he quit doing presentations at Miss Universe and Miss U.S. when the organizers of the competition insisted on giving away fur coats as prizes.

We are aware that he remained with his wife until the very end, having met her when he was fifteen. Barker claimed he vowed to love his wife forever, so even after she passed away, he saw no reason to get married again.

In memory of his late mother and wife, Barker established the D.J.&T. Foundation in 1994. Since then, the organization has given millions of dollars to support programs that neuter animals. Additionally, he has provided funding for the rescue of numerous animals from American parks. In order to renovate a building for PETA’s new Los Angeles office, which opened in 2012, Barker donated $2.5 million in 2010.

After making a brief cameo appearance and fighting with Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore,” Barker was awarded the MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.
