Originally born Franklin Roberto Lashley on July 16, 1976, in Junction City, Kansas, Bobby is the daughter of a drill sergeant who served the U.S. Army. As Lashley recalled his childhood, “I come from Panama, and my mother barely spoke English when I was a child. Although she was unable to secure a job, she managed to raise four of us.” Bobby began wrestling as a seventh grader at Fort Riley Middle School. Three consecutive years after graduating from Junction City High School, Lashley was the 177-pound National Wrestling Champion at Missouri Valley College.

In 1999, Bobby received a degree in human service agency management and recreation administration. He joined the military and wrestled in the United States. At the Conseil International du Sport Militaire World Championships, he won gold and silver medals in senior freestyle wrestling. While training in Colorado Springs, Lashley saw a bank robbery and jumped for cover to avoid being shot. This injured his knee. As a result of the injury, his amateur wrestling career ended.

In September 2005, he made his televised debut on SmackDown, and in January 2006, he competed in the Royal Rumble. He competed in WrestleMania 22, reached the finals of the King of the Ring tournament, and won the WWE United States Championship. In October 2006, Bobby competed in the World Heavyweight Championship but lost to King Booker. A few months later, he began wrestling for the ECW brand, winning the ECW World Championship in December 2006. Vince McMahon stripped him of the title in June 2007, after winning it again and signing for WWE Raw. In August 2007, Lashley underwent left shoulder surgery, and the WWE released him from his contract in February 2008.

A wrestler for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling from 2009 to 2010, Bobby has wrestled between 2014 and 2018. TNA/Impact World Heavyweight Championship, King of the Mountain Championship, and X Division Championship were among his responsibilities.
