Her first acting role was in the sitcom “Moesha” in 1996, which led to further opportunities for other parts and multiple accolades.

For many years, Brandy Rayana Norwood—better known by her stage name, Brandy—has been a household name. Her mother, Sonja Norwood, and father, Willie Norwood, gave birth to the gifted artist. Her mother served as the district manager of H&R Block, while her father was a gospel performer and choir director. The three of them shared a home in McComb, Mississippi, with her younger brother Ray J. Brandy began singing in her father’s church choir as a young child and was brought up with Christian principles. When her parents moved to Carson, California, in 1983, she enrolled in classes at Hollywood High Performing Arts Center. After signing with Teaspoon Productions, she was hired as the supporting vocalist for the R&B boy band Immature in 1990. While still in discussions with East West Records in 1993, she signed with Atlantic Recording Corporation through her parents. She began homeschooling, and her mother quit her job to take over as her manager.

Her debut album, “Brandy,” which she self-released in 1994, was somewhat successful. She appeared in the U.P.N. sitcom “Moesha” in 1996, which earned her first honor—the N.A.A.C.P. Image Award—and prompted an influx of other acting offers. However, the song duet she recorded in 1998 with Monica, an R&B contemporary musician, titled “The Boy Is Mine,” marked her career breakthrough musically. That same year, she also released her second album, “Never say Never,” for which she received her first Grammy Award. In 2002, she published “Brandy: Special Delivery,” a reality series that tracked the birth of her daughter, Sy’rai Smith. In addition to appearing in “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business” that same year, she participated in “Dancing with the Stars” season 11 in 2010. She made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in the musical “Chicago” in 2015. She also executive produced and starred in the sitcom “Zoe Ever After,” which aired in 2016. She was extremely proud of her first endeavour as an independent musician, her seventh album, “B7.”

Brandy has dated a few famous people in the past. She dated the main singer of Boyz II Men, Wanya Morris, and rapper Mase before being the famed Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers’ prom date in 1996. She began dating the producer Robert “Big Bert” Smith in 2001, and the two eventually gave birth to a daughter. However, they parted ways in 2002. She released the tune “Bye Bipolar” off her seventh album, “B7,” which starts the discussion about how toxic relationships impacted her mental health and details how she battled depression and P.T.S.D. but overcame it with the help of counselling, meditation, journaling, and prayer.
