Urie was born into a Mormon family. After his birth, the family relocated to Las Vegas in the state of Nevada. He then began academic and religious training at Palo Verde School in accordance with the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the same institution, he began to investigate music. He learned to perform the guitar, piano, cello, accordion, and a variety of other instruments, preparing him to become a multi-instrumentalist musician in the future.
