Bruce Springsteen Birthday

Douglas Frederick Joseph Springsteen is a musical legend who was born in Long Branch, New Jersey on September 23, 1949. Over the course of more than 50 years, he revolutionised the music industry and pioneered heartland rock, permanently changing the game. His early years were spent with his two sisters, Virginia and Pamela, and as time went on, it became apparent that the artistic trait ran in the family. Pamela pursued acting prior to settling on photography as her primary occupation. Springsteen attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Freehold during his adolescence. His rebellious temperament led to a number of conflicts with the nuns, and a portion of his later music was inspired by his time there.

The fact that he grew up listening to Frank Sinatra on the radio influenced his decision to become a musician. In 1964, after seeing The Beatles for the first time on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” he was inspired to purchase his first guitar and subsequently began performing with The Rogues at local venues such as Elks Lodge. In the same year, his mother took out a loan and purchased him a $60 Kent guitar, which he later referenced in his song “The Wish.” His skill as a prolific and specialised songwriter drew the attention of several individuals, who would later alter the course of his life. These individuals included Jim Cretecos, who introduced him to John Hammond, the talent evaluator for Columbia Records at the time. Clive Davis signed him to Columbia Records in 1972, and he published “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” and “The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle” in 1973. After he changed his style in 1975, “Born to Run” brought him worldwide recognition. Later, in 1980, “The River” topped the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart, and in 1984, along with the E Street Band, he released “Born in the U.S.A.,” which became his most commercially successful album.

Springsteen is one of the best-selling musicians in the world and has received numerous honours and awards throughout his career, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award. In 1999, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he received the Kennedy Centre Honours in 2009. In 2013, he was designated the MusiCares Person of the Year, and in 2016, President Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
