His late mother, a Filipina, was a hula performer and singer, whereas his percussionist father has ancestry in Ukraine, Puerto Rico, and Hungary. Mars, who had previously performed in his family band The Love Notes and donned the persona “Little Elvis” during numerous on-stage appearances, transferred to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue an independent career in the entertainment industry. He had done so since his high school graduation.
Mars worked as a music producer prior to achieving success as a performer, composing tracks for artists including Adam Levine, Sean Kingston, and Flo Rida.
