Chinmayananda Saraswati Biography: Swami Chinmayananda is one of India’s most prominent spiritual leaders. He was regarded as an expert on ancient Indian scriptures, particularly the sacred Bhagwad Gita and the Upanishads. Swami Chinmayananda was born as Balakrishna Menon (Balan) in Ernakulam district of Kerala, in 1916. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Lucknow University, he entered the sphere of journalism. He believed that he could influence the political, economic, and social reform movement through journalism up until that point.
Swami Chinmayananda dedicated forty years to assisting others. He established ashrams, colleges, hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics all over the globe.
In 1993, Swami Chinmayananda was appointed President of the Hindu Religion by the Hindu Host Committee. The honour was bestowed upon him at the Chicago Meeting of the Parliament of World Religions. At the religious leaders’ conference “World Vision 2000,” he was also recognised for his lifetime of devoted service to humanity. On August 3, 1993, Swami Chinmayananda departed this universe to become one with the Supreme Lord. In San Diego, California, he passed away.
Chinmayananda Mission was founded with the intention of bringing immutable Vedanta knowledge closer to people. In addition, it teaches them how to achieve spiritual development and contentment.
Chinmayananda suffered from chronic cardiac issues. In 1969, when he was the first patient at the newly founded Chinmaya Mission Hospital in Bangalore, he suffered his first heart attack.[14]: 95 In Texas, he underwent numerous heart bypass surgeries during the summer of 1980, while he was in the United States for a series of jnana yajnas.[6]: 405
On July 26, 1993, he experienced respiratory difficulties in San Diego, California. Transferred from Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla to Sharp Memorial Hospital on July 29, he underwent quintuple bypass surgery. However, his condition remained critical, and he was placed on life support.[6]: 430 Five days later, on August 3, 1993, at 5:45 p.m., he died at the age of 77.[27] His devotees commemorate the date as the time he attained maha samadhi.
