Chris Perez was born in San Antonio, Texas, and reared there. In 1974, when he was four years old, his parents, computer programmer Gilbert Pérez and Carmen Medina, divorced, and his mother remarried in 1978. He has Mexican-American ancestry. In his youth, Perez taught himself guitar, and his musical influences include Motley Crüe, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, and Iron Maiden, to mention a few. In 2010, Perez formed the Chris Perez Project alongside Puerto Rican singer Angel Ferrer, publishing the album “Todo es Diferente.” In March of 2012, Perez published “To Selena, With Love,” which portrayed their relationship and conflicts. In 2021, Perez’s new record label, Blue Mariachi Productions, contracted ZEUS as its first entertainment act. The name El Mero Necio.
