Originally, Christian attended Los Alamitos High School. He attended this school for his freshman year before transferring to Knight High School in Palmdale, California. He spent another year at Knight High School before enrolling at Finlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada. Wood began practising basketball during this time. He helped the Pilots win 54 matches consecutively in Findlay. Additionally, Wood supported his team to a 2012 ESPN High School Invitational championship.

Christian Marquise Wood was ranked as the No. 36 overall athlete in the 2013 class by Rivals. Similarly, Scout and ESPN ranked him tenth and seventy-oneth, respectively. As a freshman, Wood averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 30 contests. In 33 games as a sophomore, he averaged 15.7 points, 2.7 blocks, and 10 boards.

Christian Wood, who declared for the 2015 NBA draught but went undrafted, eventually joined the Houston Rockets and participated in the NBA Summer League. In September 2015, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he made his debut against the Boston Celtics by grabbing two rebounds in his first two minutes. Later, he was acquired by the Delaware 87ers, but his time there was brief, and he returned to the 76ers for the remainder of the season.

Wood was inked by the Charlotte Hornets in 2016, and within three minutes of his debut against the Indiana Pacers, he grabbed two more rebounds. In 2017, he returned to Delaware but participated in the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns.

He was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2019, allowing him to join the New Orleans Pelicans, for whom he scored seven points in the first eight minutes of his debut game. However, the Pelicans waived him at the conclusion of the season, allowing him to sign with the Detroit Pistons for the 2019-20 campaign. Wood was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2020 and inked a four-year, $41 million contract with them.

In 2022, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks and immediately established himself as a star player by becoming the first player in franchise history to score 25 points in each of his first two games.
