Dharmendra Biography: On December 8, 1935, Dharmendra, also known as Dharam Singh Deol, was born in Punjab, British India. His acting career began when he emerged victorious in a “Filmfare” magazine talent hunt.

He attended the government school at Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, and was raised in Sahnewal. He was well-educated because his father was the head of a nearby school. Dharmendra had a passion for movies since he was young and was well-informed about actors and the Indian film industry.

Dharmendra: Career

Among all the well-known film stars of his time, Dharmendra had a special affection for the actress Suraiya. At one point, he hiked several miles to see her film “Dillagi.” He admired and found inspiration in the lives of actors in movies, and he aspired to be one himself. He relocated from Mumbai (then known as Bombay) his hometown in order to pursue this dream after winning a contest run by the magazine “Filmfare.”

Even though the promised film never came to pass, he persisted in trying. He eventually landed his first role in the romantic film “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere” in 1960. Following that, he had a supporting role in “Boy Friend” in 1961. He portrayed the stereotypical Indian romantic hero in a number of films. He co-starred with Meena Kumari in several popular films. They quickly became an impressive team, which really helped him become known among the A-list celebrities.

When Dharmendra was nominated for a 1971 Filmfare award for best actor for the action film “Mera Gaon Mera Desh,” people began to take notice. He was able to change his “romantic” image to one of a gifted and adaptable actor thanks to his outstanding performance.
