Ross began singing as a teenager with her companions in the group The Primettes. They became the popular R&B and musical group The Supremes in the 1960s. The group was contracted to Motown Records in 1961. In 1964, they scored their first number-one success with “Where Did Our Love Go?” They were the first American group to have five consecutive number one singles. With additional chart-topping singles, the ensemble became the U.S. group with the most chart-topping singles in Billboard history.
Ross began his solo career in 1969 and remained a prominent figure in the music industry, publishing numerous hit singles and albums. In 1972, she made her acting debut in the biopic Lady Sings the Blues, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She went on to feature in additional films.
1980 saw the release of the platinum-selling album “Diana” by Ross, which included the number-one smash “Upside Down.” ‘Endless Love,’ a 1981 duet with Lionel Richie, was also a number one success. In the new millennium, Ross has released “Blue” in 2006 and “I Love You” in 2007.
Ross has had two marriages. She married business manager Robert Ellis Silberstein in 1971. After their divorce in 1977, she was wed to Norwegian shipping magnate Arne Naess Jr. between 1986 and 1999. The legendary singer has five children named Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross, and Evan.
