He graduated with distinctions from Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In 2004, M.I.A. approached him after hearing one of his compositions while he was spinning at the Fabric Club in London. During that time, Pentz was performing her compositions ‘Galang’ and ‘Fire Fire’. Subsequently, the two artists worked together to produce a compilation titled “Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. 1,” wherein acapellas from Arular tracks were blended with compositions by other musicians. It was named one of their “Albums of the Year” by both “Pitchfork Media” and “The New York Times.” The collaboration between the two persisted after the release. Collaborations with Beyonce, Shakira, Robyn, Kid Cudi, Bruno Mars, No Doubt, and Snoop Dogg propelled him from the realm of obscure DJing to that of a prosperous producer. Rolling Stone ranked Diplo among the “40 Reasons to be Excited About Music” in its April 2010 issue. Approximately at this time, he and Kathryn Lockhart welcomed their first child, Lockett Pentz. In 2014, the couple welcomed a second child named Lazer Pentz.

Both DJs rose to prominence on the local and national levels as they kept throwing events that famous people like Bun B and M.I.A. attended. Diplo ultimately issued his debut solo album, titled “Florida.” Big Nada Records distributed “Florida,” which had a gloomy, nightclub-inspired aesthetic. The DVD “Banned in Libya,” which he subsequently released, delved into the subgenre referred to as “favela funk.”

In pursuit of further accomplishments, Diplo subsequently established his personal facility, which he dubbed “The Mausoleum.” This included space for hosting events, a gallery, record label offices, a video laboratory, and a recording studio. Over the subsequent years, Shakira, Boys Noize, Santigold, and numerous other artists would visit The Mausoleum to record.

Despite beginning to achieve success at this juncture, Diplo’s international prominence did not truly materialize until he entered into a collaboration with M.I.A. Subsequently, Major Lazer released an EP titled “Lazers Never Die.” Walshy Fire and Jillionaire took over for Switch after his departure from the group in 2011. This new group of musicians subsequently released “Free the Universe,” the second album by Major Lazer.

Once again attaining widespread recognition in 2016, Major Lazer attained this status with the release of the single “Cold Water,” which featured Justin Bieber. Subsequent albums by the group include “Music Is the Weapon” and “Peace Is the Mission.”

Furthermore, Diplo and Skrillex assembled as the duo Jack Ü in 2013. This duo embarked on a nationwide tour prior to the release of “Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü,” their debut studio album.
