Dr Seuss Biography: Age, Height, Birthday, Family, Net Worth

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904 to German immigrant grandparents. During World War I, he grew up in a wealthy extended family, which helped shape his patriotism.

Dr. Seuss Biography: The birthday of Dr. Seuss is celebrated on March 2, along with the birthdays of Theodor Seuss Geisel and the National Education Association, to promote the value of reading. Dr. Seuss coined the term “nerd,” which is a lesser-known fact. In his 1950 book “If I Ran the Zoo,” about a boy named Gerald McGrew who visits a zoo and wonders what it would be like if he ran it, the term was first recorded. Dr. Seuss is therefore partially responsible for nerd culture.

Dr. Seuss Birthday

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904 to German immigrant grandparents. During World War I, he grew up in a wealthy extended family, which helped shape his patriotism. According to the legend, he sold so many War bonds as a scout that he was to be honoured by President Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt had only nine medals at the time of the award ceremony, leaving young Seuss without a medal. Since Teddy asked, “What is this boy doing here?”, Suess has experienced stage fright.

Seuss graduated from high school in 1921 and enrolled at Dartmouth College, where he joined the Dartmouth Jack-O’-Lantern humour magazine. He would eventually become the publication’s editor-in-chief, but was forced to resign after being caught drinking. It was the time of Prohibition, and a zero-tolerance policy was in effect.

During World War II, Seuss drew over 400 political cartoons for the New York daily newspaper “PM.” Many of them were politically motivated against Hitler and Mussolini, and Japanese Americans were portrayed as potential traitors. In them, he supported President Roosevelt, criticised Congress, and wrote films for the United States Air Force.

In the 1950s, he used the pen name Dr. Seuss to write children’s books in La Jolla, California, following World War II. He continued to write until his death on September 24, 1991, producing works such as “The Cat in the Hat,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” His legacy endures as his beloved children’s books continue to inspire young readers and sell well. The National Education Association chose his birthday to honour reading in 1997, and the inaugural Read Across America Day was held in 1998.
