Dustin Bates Biography:

Early Life

As a child, Dustin Bates loved two things very much: music and space. The Bates family has three children: a son named Tim, two girls named Chrystal and Heidi, and a brother named Jay. Bates went to Ohio University and got a master’s degree in avionic engineering after finishing from high school. He went to the International Space University to study after high school. While Bates was in school, he worked with more than 100 space experts at an Australian base.

Career

Bates’ second love, music, wasn’t left out, though. He began playing different instruments when he was very young. After high school, he played in many neighborhood bands and at evening venues. Bates helped start the alternative metal band Downplay in 2001. At first, the band only played copy songs. The band got a deal with Epic Records in 2010. Since then, Downplay has put out five studio records.

A second band called Starset was formed by Bates in 2013. Its members are Dustin Bates, Ron DeChant, Brock Richards, and Adam Gilbert. Bates sings lead, plays keyboards, and writes songs for the band. “Transmissions,” Starset’s first record, came out in 2014. Since then, the band has put out three more studio records and become famous all over the world. Music and space are two things that Bates really loves, and in 2017 he worked with Marvel Comics to make the graphic book “The Prox Transmissions.” The book came out at the same time as Starset’s record “Ship.”
