Elton John Birthday

Elton Hercules Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born on March 25, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England as John. He is the son of Stanley Dwight, who served as a sergeant and squadron commander in the Royal Air Force, and Sheila Eileen, who was reportedly described as a cold, uncaring woman and died in 2017 at the age of 92. John was reared by his mother’s grandparents in a Pinner council house until his parents’ marriage in 1945. He attended Pinner Wood Junior School, Reddiford School, and Pinner County Grammar School until the age of 17, when he decided to pursue a career in music and dropped out of school just before his A-Level exams. John’s father disapproved of him and tried to steer him towards a more conventional profession, such as finance. John has explained that his expressive costumes are his way of overcoming his repressive upbringing.

John played his grandmother’s piano as a young child, and after performing at small family gatherings, he began formal piano lessons at the age of seven. He demonstrated musical talent in school and was able to compose and repeat melodies flawlessly. He was awarded a juvenile scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 11. He founded the band Bluesology in 1962 and remained a member until 1967. In 1967, he met his longstanding musical partner, Bernard John Taupin, after responding to an advertisement for songwriters. As session musicians, they composed compositions for other artists for two years. In 1970, John formed the Elton John Band and released his first successful single, ‘Your Song,’ which reached the top ten on both the U.K. and U.S. charts. John has composed music for numerous musical films and theatre productions, including “The Lion King” and its stage adaptation. He is also the subject of the film “Rocketman.”

John has been involved in the struggle against AIDS since the late 1980s, establishing the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992. He is a fervent activist for H.I.V./AIDS. Since its inception, more than £300 million have been raised by the foundation. John came out as openly gay in 1988 and met his future spouse, Canadian filmmaker David Furnish, in 2005. After the legalisation of same-sex marriage in 2014, Furnish and John tied the knot in England. John is one of the most successful musicians of all time, having sold over 300 million records worldwide over the course of six decades. John was ranked as the top solo artist in U.S. chart history for the third time in 2019, and he has won five Grammys, five Brit Awards, two Oscars, and a Tony. 1994 also saw his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
