Elvis Presley Biography: Age, Height, Birthday, Music Career, Family, Personal Life, Net Worth

In this classic movie, Elvis plays a musician who becomes famous overnight in a New Orleans nightclub but also clashes with Walter Matthau's portrayal of a well-known mob figure.

Elvis Presley Biography: January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday, which falls on the first of the year. Many people told him that he couldn’t hold a song, but he went on to become one of the most well-liked singers and performers. To honor the man and his life, many Americans travel to Graceland, his former residence near Memphis.

Early Life

On January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Aron Presley was born. Thirty-five minutes earlier, his identical twin sibling was delivered, stillborn. Presley obtained a C in music in high school. He took his guitar and sung his latest song, Keep Them Cold, Icy Fingers Off Me, after his music teacher informed him he had no talent for singing. Later, a pupil recalled that the teacher had acknowledged Elvis’s point that she wasn’t fond of his style of singing.

Career

With the faint hope of being discovered, Presley paid for a short session of studio time in August 1953 to record a two-sided acetate as a gift for his mother. In 1954, Presley cut a second acetate, but it was never released. Soon after, he was told he had no future in singing after failing auditions for a professional band and a local vocal quartet.

Producer Sam Phillips of Sun Records, who had shown interest in Elvis during his initial acetate recording, was searching for a white man who could introduce black music to a wider audience. He recorded Jimmy Sweeney’s ballad “Without You” with Elvis, but he couldn’t quite bring the song to life. After asking Presley to perform as many songs as he could recall, Phillips became so moved that he invited two musicians to rehearse for a session. Presley was relaxing and playing around when he picked up his guitar and began to jump and dance to a blues song. He was joined in dancing and playing by guitarist Winfield “Scotty” Moore and bassist Bill Black. As Phillips turned to go, he poked his head back in and inquired.

Reasons we like him

The early rock’s face

Elvis served as a link between rock ‘n’ roll for a wider audience and the early blues-based rock pioneered by African American musicians. Although he frequently covered African American musicians—some would even argue that he appropriated them—he was a major contributor to the start of the American rock explosion.

He disregarded the guidelines.

The American moral police established the standard for how music and culture were consumed in America before Elvis, especially among youth. Elvis defied the cultural authority structure by bringing out the yelling youth, especially the young ladies.

After death, there is life.

Very few American celebrities have remained influential in culture for this long after their passing. Elvis’s life and death are still discussed and questioned. His films and songs are still well-known. And other people think he might still be out there somewhere on Earth.
