When Wood’s parents separated in 1997, she moved to Los Angeles with her mom, who converted to Judaism. Due to bullying, Wood left school at age 12 and never returned. Her experiences encouraged her to study taekwondo, which she continues to do to this day. At age 15, Wood obtained her high school diploma.

Born into an acting family, Wood was exposed to acting and stage performances at an early age. Her father even cast her and her mother in a rendition of the Christmas carol “The Miracle Worker.” However, Wood made her first screen appearance in “Digging to China” (1998), and she received her first major break in “Little Secrets” (2001), in which she portrayed the protagonist. 2003’s “Thirteen” earned Wood a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globes. Three years later, “Premier Magazine” presented her with the Spotlight Award for Emerging Talent. Wood appeared in “What Works” in 2009. She also appeared in the second and third seasons of the supernatural drama “True Blood” on HBO. Since then, she has starred in numerous films and television series, including “The Conspirator” (2011), “Mildred Pierce” (2011), and “Charlie Countryman” (2013). In “Frozen II” (2019), she most recently provided the voice of Queen Iduna.

Wood’s mother reared her as a Jew, and she once stated publicly, “I believe in God, but my definition of God is very personal.” In 2007, her relationship with vocalist Marilyn Manson became public knowledge when she appeared in his song ‘Heart-shaped Glasses,’ which was widely believed to have been written for her. However, by 2010, their relationship had deteriorated due to Wood’s accusations of rape and violence against Manson. In 2012, she married Jamie Bell. They had a child prior to their 2014 separation.
