Over the next few years, he released “Songs by Sinatra” (1947), “Christmas Songs by Sinatra” (1948), “Frankly Sentimental” (1949), and “Dedicated to You” (1950). But none of these records achieved the same level of success as the debut. After attempting his hand at acting in Hollywood during the 1940s, Sinatra’s 1953 film “From Here to Eternity” became an enormous hit. In 1960, his album “Nice ‘n Easy” was released. It topped the Billboard chart for nine weeks.
At the Grammy Awards, he was a nominee for Best Male Vocal Performance, Best Arrangement, and Album of the Year. He played the lead role in the World War II adventure film “Von Ryan’s Express,” released in 1965. The story follows a group of Allied POWs who try a daring mass escape after Italy signs an armistice with the Allies in September 1943.
