Fred Durst Birthday

Originally named Frederick Allen Mayne III, Fred Durst’s name was changed to William Frederick Durst after his mother remarried. He is a household name in both the music and cinema industries. His parents, Anita and Robert Durst, raised him in Utica, New York. He developed an early appreciation for rapping, beatboxing, and DJing after becoming interested in dancing, hip hop, and heavy metal.

Durst and his pals started the band Limp Bizkit in 1994. Covers of George Michael’s “Faith” and Paula Abdul’s “Straight up” helped bring new fans to the band’s live shows. They quickly found tour deals coming their way. With Flip Records, Limp Bizkit released their debut album, “Three Dollar Bill Y’all,” in 1997. After a mediocre response to the album and a tour, Durst began making cameo appearances in the music videos of other musicians. For the film “Very Bad Things” (1998), he created a music video for Limp Bizkit’s single “Faith,” and for their tour with Primus and Deftones, he directed a music video in which all three bands were honoured. Both “Significant Other” (1999) and “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water” (2000), the band’s subsequent albums, were commercial successes that brought Limp Bizkit to the attention of the general public. Through the next five years, Durst and his band continued touring and eventually released “The Unquestionable Truth, Part 1” in 2005. Almost immediately after that, Limp Bizkit disbanded.

During this time, Durst began his career in filmmaking with a series of low-budget features. Soon after his playing debut in 2006’s “Population 436,” he took the helm for “The Education of Charlie Banks” in 2007. Critics were divided on the film. Two episodes of the medical drama “House, M.D.” (2004-2012) also featured him in lead roles. Limp Bizkit reformed in 2009 and immediately began touring again. In 2011, they dropped “Gold Cobra,” which reached #16 on the Billboard 200. Durst, along with other rappers Lil Wayne and Birdman, performed in Kevin Rudolf’s smash hit “Champions” a year later. “The Fanatic,” starring John Travolta, was his last directing effort and was released in 2019, while “Still Sucks” by Limp Bizkit was released in 2021.

Durst has two children, a girl and a son, from his three marriages.
