Gopi Sundar Biography: Gopi Sundar is an Indian composer, vocalist, and music director. His given name is Gopisundar C. S., and his professional name is Gopi Sundar. Native to Kerala, he developed a passion for music by listening to the radio with his mother and working in his father’s recording studio. He began his career as a commercial composer and has composed approximately 5,000 jingles to date.
As a keyboard programmer, he has collaborated with some of the most renowned Indian cinema composers. His first film as a music director was the musical drama Notebook, which was released in 2006. Since then, he has worked on over a hundred projects in the languages of Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, and has won two Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award. In 2014, Gopi Sundar founded his record imprint, Gopi Sundar Music Company, to assist aspiring musicians. In Dubai in 2016, he founded his live performance music ensemble, ensemble Big G.

Youth and Early Life
Gopi Sundar was born in Kochi, Kerala, India on 30 May 1977 to Suresh Babu and Livi. Since he was a child, Sundar had laboured in the recording studio that his father owned. He also spent considerable time with his mother listening to the radio.
After failing his SSLC exams, he dropped out of school and decided to pursue a vocation in music. His parents completely supported his relocation. He moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and attended the Government Music College there. Nonetheless, he bowed out after losing interest.
Career
Gopi Sundar’s father assisted him in joining the music ensemble of the Malayalam composer Ouseppachan. In addition to playing the tabla and the piano, he gained recognition for his composing abilities. Soon after, he began creating jingles for advertising campaigns. He has composed approximately 5,000 jingles for various brands over the years.
He served as the keyboard programmer for Vishal-Shekhar, the duo of Bollywood music directors. They worked together on tunes such as ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hai’ (‘Bluffmaster!’) and ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’ (‘Om Shanti Om’), as well as the soundtrack for the 2006 film ‘Taxi No. 9211′.
Rosshan Andrews’ 2006 Malayalam musical-drama “Notebook” marked his debut as a composer. The film’s success gave him a firm footing in the industry, and he moved on to compose music for the 2007 Mohanlal-starring Malayalam film Flash. In the same year, he debuted in Bollywood with the comedy-thriller Dhol.
His first Tamil film, titled ‘Poi Solla Porom’, was released in 2008. The 2010 Malayalam action-thriller ‘Anwar’ features music composed by Gopi Sundar. This film, starring Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas and directed by Amal Neerad, earned him his first Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. He won the Asianet Film Award for Best Music Director and the Pearl Award for Best Background Score for the 2012 Malayalam drama film ‘Ustad Hotel’, and was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.
Gopi Sundar made his début in the Telugu film industry in 2015 with the romance drama Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju, for which he was nominated for another Filmfare. In 2014, he also won the National Film Award for Best Background Score for ‘1983’
During a 2016 live performance at Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai, in front of a capacity audience, Sundar formed his music group, Band Big G. Consisting of a rotating collection of singers and musicians, the band performs alongside Gopi Sundar during live performances.
In 2019, he became a judge on the reality programme ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Keralam’ on Zed Keralam.
Major Works
The Malayalam film ‘Bangalore Days’ is one of his most significant works. Gopi Sundar received the Asianet Film Award and the Vanitha Film Award for Best Music Director for the film, in addition to the Filmfare Award.
The 2014 film entitled ‘1983’ earned him the National Film Award for Best Background Score.

Family and Private Life
In 2001, Gopi Sundar married Priya. Together, they have two sons, Madhav and Yadav. Since then, the couple has separated, and the divorce proceedings are pending. Currently, he resides with the performer Abhaya Hiranmayi.
In July of 2018, he revealed that he has been in a relationship with singer Abhaya Hiranmayi for nine years.
