HasanAbi was born Hasan Doan Piker in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on July 25, 1991. HasanAbi’s parents are Turkish, and he was harassed at school in Istanbul for questioning Islam and being unfit. He returned to the United States to attend the University of Miami. Later, HasanAbi transferred to Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he majored in both communication studies and political science, graduating with honors in 2013. Uncle HasanAbi is the progressive political commentator Cenk Uygur, who created the popular news commentary program “The Young Turks.”
