James Neesham Career

Domestic Career

Twenty-year-old Neesham made his debut for Auckland in 2010 at the age of 20. However, in 2011 he decided to relocate to Otago, which proved to be a wise decision. In eight list A matches, he scored 205 runs at an average of 51.25, including two fifties, and took 14 wickets at an average of 23. He scored the third-most runs and took the third-most wickets for Otago during the season. Against Wellington, he recorded his best bowling figures in his career: 5-44.

IPL Career

The Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) acquired James Neesham for the seventh season of the Indian Premier League. Due to the paucity of opportunities, he played in only four games and was ultimately cut from the team the following season.

ODI Career

James Neesham debuted in ODIs in January 2013 and contributed little. However, after his debut series, Neesham performed in parts but the indifferent form kept him in and out of the team routinely. Consequently, he narrowly missed the transport for the 2015 World Cup at home and was devastated. Neesham was a member of the one-day team for the subsequent two seasons, but he was cut following the 2017 Champions Trophy.

In the first ODI against Sri Lanka on January 3, 2019, Neesham scored 34 runs in one over, including five sixes. He was named to New Zealand’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April.

In the tournament, he was exceptional with both bat and ball. In the final against England, he took three wickets and produced the 50th-over run out to tie the game. In the Super Over, he was given the responsibility of batting and scored 13 runs off 5 deliveries, including a massive six off Jofra Archer. Martin Guptill was run out attempting a second run, which would have won New Zealand the World Cup, while he was at the non-striker’s end for the final ball.
