Jamesy Boy Birthday

James McAvoy was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 21, 1979 to bus driver James and nurse Elizabeth McAvoy. After his parents divorced when he was 11 years old, he was reared by his maternal grandparents in a Drumchapel, Glasgow housing estate. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Jordanhill, where he performed well enough with a few friends to establish a small school band. McAvoy considered becoming a Catholic priest as a youth, but actor David Hayman’s visit to his high school piqued his interest in acting when he was 16 years old.

Although he enjoyed his role in the 1995 film “The Near Room” by Hayman, McAvoy did not actively consider acting as a career, though he continued to perform as a member of PACE Youth Theatre. Instead, he joined the Royal Navy and was accepted prior to enrolling at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (R.S.A.M.D.). After graduating in 2000, he relocated to London and accepted a position at the R.S.A.M.D. (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). He continued to work steadily in television and film until 2004, when he captured the attention of the British public as car thief Steve McBride in the popular U.K. television series “Shameless,” and then the rest of the world as Mr. Tumnus in Disney’s adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” (2005).

The film “Atonement” (2007) marked McAvoy’s breakthrough. Since then, McAvoy has expanded into the theatre, starring in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award for ‘Best Actor.’ McAvoy returned to Trafalgar Studios in January 2015 to play Jack Gurney, the deranged 14th Earl of Gurney who believes he is Jesus, in the first revival of Peter Barnes’ comedy “The Ruling Class,” for which he received the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for ‘Best Actor.’ McAvoy has appeared in numerous films throughout the years. In the 2016 psychological thriller “Split,” he portrayed Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man suffering from severe dissociative identity disorder. In the 2019 sequel “Glass,” he reprised the role.

In “It: Chapter Two” (2019), the horror sequel to “It” (2017), he portrayed Bill Denbrough. McAvoy began courting Anne-Marie Duff, who portrayed his on-screen girlfriend in “Shameless.” Their son, Brendan, was born in 2010; they were married on 11 November 2006 and he was born in 2010. On May 13, 2016, the couple proclaimed their divorce in a joint statement. In an interview with “The Guardian,” the actor admitted to having secretly wed Lisa Liberati. The couple met in 2016 on the set of the horror film “Split” by M. Night Shyamalan, where Liberati was working as the director’s assistant.
