Early Life

When Jamie Foxx was less than a year old, his maternal grandmother adopted him because his parents couldn’t handle the responsibility of raising a child after he was born. It was for the best, as he credits his grandmother as his source of inspiration. It was also she who first recognized his abilities. She encouraged Foxx to enroll in piano lessons, which helped him develop his musical talent and develop a love of music. By the age of 15, he was the music director at school and the choir leader at a nearby church, having made $300 performing at local events at the age of 13. He was the class clown, the most gifted athlete and the best student academically.

Career

Despite having a music scholarship to college, he left to focus on stand-up comedy. His popularity in the local circuit grew rapidly after he started doing open mic nights. He became a cast member of “In Living Color” in 1991. The W.B. network gave Jamie Foxx his own sitcom show, “The Jamie Foxx Show,” (1996–2001), after he received such positive reviews for his performance. Review scores were outstanding for the duration of its release.

Foxx made his acting debut in a couple of mediocre slapstick comedies. It was “Any Given Sunday” (1999) that gave him his big break playing dramatic roles. For his role in the biographical film “Ray,” which was based on the life of musician Ray Charles, he was awarded an Academy Award in 2004.

Over the years, he has pursued multiple entrepreneurial endeavors while juggling his career in comedy, acting, and music.
