Jaswinder Bhalla Biography: Born on 4 May 1960, Jaswinder Bhalla is an Indian actor and comedian who specialises in Punjabi cinema. He began his professional career as a comedian in 1988 with the film Chankata 88 and transitioned into acting with the film Dulla Bhatti. He is best known for his comedy roles in numerous Punjabi films and the comedy series Chankatta. Bhalla is well-known for always including taglines in his films and adding a humorous flavour to them. In addition to performing on stage, he has toured Canada and Australia with his stage performance Naughty Baba in Town.

Jaswinder Bhalla Early Life

Jaswinder Bhalla was born in the city of Ludhiana on 4 May 1960. Master Bahadur Singh Bhalla, his father, was a primary school teacher in the village of Barmalipur. He received his elementary education from Doraha Senior Secondary School.

Education

He completed his B.S. and M.S. at Punjab Agricultural University and his PhD at Chaudhry Charan Singh University, Meerut. He began his academic career at PAU as an Assistant Professor and retired on 31 May 2020 as Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education.

Comedy profession

He began performing during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations. In 1975, Jaswinder Bhalla and two classmates were selected for All India Radio. As a student at Punjab Agricultural University, Jaswinder Bhalla participated in university-sponsored comedy performances. Together with Bal Mukund Sharma, he launched his professional career in 1988 with the audio cassette Chhankata 1988. Bal Mukund Sharma and Jaswinder Bhalla were Punjab Agriculture University classmates. Word Chankata originated from Bhalla and Sharma’s annual college-level performance at PAU. Doordarshan Kendra, and Jalandhar discovered them while they were performing at Professor Mohan Singh Mela (cultural festival) on the personal recommendation of Punjabi author Jagdev Singh Jassowal. He has released more than 27 audio and video Chankata series albums. In addition to Bal Mukund Sharma, Neelu Sharma has contributed to the Chhankata series. Beginning with Chhankata 2002, the series is also made available on video cassette.

In his Chhankata series, he portrayed a wide variety of Punjabi characters from all spheres of life. Chacha (Uncle) Chatur Singh, an old villager, is one of the primary characters. He discusses Punjab’s politics, and the differences between rural and urban living, and tells jokes from all walks of life. Bhana, a youth from Chatur Singh’s village who has emigrated to the United States and appears in the Chhankata as an NRI, is another character he portrays. JB, another of Jaswinder Bhalla’s characters, is the son of Chatur Singh. Taya Fumhan Singh is one more notable character.

Jaswinder Bhalla Film career

Jaswinder’s filmography includes Mahaul Theek Hai, Jeeja Ji, Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, Power Cut, Kabaddi Once Again, Apan Phir Milange, Mel Kara De Rabba, Carry On Jatta, Jatt and Juliet, and Jatt Airways. In a number of Punjabi films, he always speaks with various Takia Klams. Such as Mein Taa Bhannduu Bullan Naal Akhrote, Je Chandigarh Dhaijoo Pinda Warga Taa Rehjooo or Dhillon Ne Kaalaa Cot Aiven Ni Payeya. According to him, his artwork highlights social ills such as female foeticide, substance abuse, and unemployment.

Controversy

His most recent album, Mithe Pochey, satirised the Nambardaars of several villages in Punjab, provoking their ire. He was allegedly assaulted by a Punjab government official in retaliation for his criticism of the government.

Jaswinder Bhalla Personal Life

He is married to the Fine Arts instructor Parmdeep Bhalla. His son, Pukhraj Bhalla, is a B.tech in Audio Visuals student at Punjabi University, Patiala. Since 2002, Pukhraj has also featured in some Chhankata cassettes and has played excellent roles in some Punjabi films. He has a married daughter named Ashpreet Kaur in Norway. Balmukund Sharma, who portrays Bhateej in the Chhankata series, is a close acquaintance.
