During his tenure with the Golden Bears from 2015 to 2016, he twice surpassed the mark of 27 points per game. The Pac-12 ranked him as its Freshman of the Year. Following his entry into the 2016 NFL Draft, the Boston Celtics selected him with the third overall pick. Three months after signing the rookie contract, he debuted in a contest against the Brooklyn Nets. He made an inaugural appearance in 78 games, contributing to an overall productive campaign. At the conclusion of the 2018-2019 season, he and the Celtics renewed a four-year, $115 million contract. In December 2020, he recorded a career-high 42 points, and in February 2021, he was named an N.B.A. All-Star.

Brown manages to allocate time for pursuits beyond basketball, such as activism, public speaking, and intellectual growth. At the age of 22, he was elected vice president of the National Basketball Players Association. In 2019, he was bestowed with the esteemed designation of M.I.T. Media Lab Fellow.
