Jeff Bezos Birthday, Family

Jeff Bezos was born in Seattle to Jacklyn Gise and Ted Jorgensen, and was raised by Miguel Bezos after his mother divorced. As a child, he spent his summers on his grandfather’s ranch in Texas, where he built pipes, vaccinated cattle, and repaired windmills. Princeton University awarded him a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He worked on Wall Street for a number of companies, including Fitel, Bankers Trust, and D. E. Shaw & Co, New York. Bezos met MacKenzie Tuttle while working for D.E. Shaw, with whom he married in 1993. They shared four children. Following his divorce from his wife, Bezos began dating Lauren Sanchez, a former news anchor, TV show host, and helicopter pilot.

In 1984, he spent the summer working as a Programmer/Analyst in Norway, and the following year, he improved an IBM Program in California. He joined D. E. Shaw & Co. in New York in 1990 and was the firm’s youngest Vice President at the time. Despite the fact that their financial situation was favourable, he chose to leave after four years. He went on to found his own company and, in 1995, he founded Amazon.com, an online bookstore. Analysts were initially sceptical of its viability in comparison to traditional retailers, but he quickly overtook them. Amazon launched A9, a commercial search engine focused on e-commerce websites, in 2003. He also launched an online sporting goods store with over 3,000 brands.

In 2007, Amazon released the Kindle, a portable electronic reading device that uses E-Ink to generate text with adjustable font size for ease of reading. Bezos also unveiled the Kindle Fire, a colour touchscreen tablet computer rivalling Apple’s iPad. With the Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon added comfort and convenience to e-readers by including lighted touchscreens that allowed reading in the dark. He also paid $250 million in cash for “The Washington Post” and other related publications, effectively ending the Graham family’s four-generation dominance. Bezos surpassed Bill Gates as the world’s richest person in 2017, with a net worth of approximately $90 billion.
