In 1886, after meeting Harriet Alice Chipman for the first time in 1884, he wed her. Together, they had six children; she died in 1927. Then, on December 11, 1946, he wed Estella Roberta Lowitz Grant, a lifelong friend and widow whom he met while laboring in Oily City, Pennsylvania. They remained married until his death in 1952.
