His father was a prominent industrialist and politician, and his mother was a prominent socialite. Kennedy was a Gemini of Irish descent whose family moved to Riverdale in 1927. His father was frequently abroad on business and was a frequent traveller. He attended a prestigious residential school in Connecticut’s Wallingford. In September 1936, he enrolled at Harvard College after graduating from secondary school. He led a flamboyant existence, travelling the world and investigating cultures. In 1940, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Government (international relations) from cum laude.
World War II appeared unavoidable in 1940, so Kennedy joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. He commanded the patrol torpedo boat PT-101 in December 1942 and the PT-109 in April 1943. Although his PT-109 was assaulted and slashed in half, he survived. Kennedy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the Purple Heart, the World conflict II Victory Medal, and several others for his efforts during the conflict. After the war, Kennedy briefly worked for Hearst Newspapers after his father secured him a position there. He was elected to the Congress in 1947 and served for six years. In 1952, he ran for Senate and won. In 1957, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Biography for his publication “Profiles in Courage,” which described how senators jeopardised their careers for their personal beliefs. He was re-elected to the Senate for a second term in 1958 and declared his candidature for president in January 1960. In the presidential debate, he faced off against Richard Nixon and won the election by a narrow margin. He became the 35th president on January 20, 1961.
Kennedy was a president who lacked dread. In 1962, he attempted to overthrow the Cuban regime and planned an invasion. In 1963, he signed the first nuclear arms treaty and led the Peace Corps in Latin America. On November 22, 1963, however, he was murdered in Dallas, Texas. At Arlington National Cemetery, Kennedy was placed to rest. His wife, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, and four children survived him. Kennedy had multiple indiscretions throughout his life, and it is rumoured that he fathered additional children.
