The Randolph family is one of Virginia’s foundation families. His father passed away in 1775, when he was just two years old. His mother remarried in 1778 to St.George Tucker, the son of a wealthy Bermudan planter. His lack of facial hair was the result of a genetic disorder known as Klinefelters Syndrome, which affected his family. The syndrome also left him with a soprano voice that remained gentle and feminine for the remainder of his life. In his adolescence, Randolph was afflicted with tuberculosis. His sibling also passed away as a result of tuberculosis. Randolph was a frequent user of opium, but only to dull the agony of tuberculosis.

Randolph attended the private school of Walker Maury, but departed before completing his studies. His stepfather sent him and his siblings to the College of New Jersey and Columbia University, but he pulled out due to a lack of funds. Later, he was admitted to William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia, but he was expelled after a dispute with a classmate over the proper pronunciation of a word.

Despite his numerous academic shortcomings, Randolph was elected to the Sixth United States Congress at the age of 26. Additionally, he was elected to the U.S. Congress six times between 1799 and 1813. He confounded critics by criticising and opposing slavery. Randolph freed all 383 slaves born at Roanoke and granted them each a plot of land upon his death. William Plumer and other proponents of a more democratic governance were disliked by him. Randolph fought against the Yazoo Fraud’s corruption and laboured for Justice Chase’s impeachment.
