Following her debut as a model for Carter’s, she made her television debut during the second season of ABC’s “Bet on Your Baby.” To date, she has contributed to more than fifty print and commercial campaigns; however, her most recognizable work is as Ami McKellan in “Family Reunion.” She enjoys connecting and spending time with the cast of “Family Reunion,” writing, playing video games, and spending time with her dogs when she is not dominating our screens. James’ family relocated to Pasadena from Fontana in order to facilitate auditions, as the hour-long commute and traffic to Los Angeles had become intolerable while they were residing in Fontana.
She had already begun working for Pampers and Target by the age of three, and for a three-day photography competition hosted by Parents Magazine, she was flown to New York. She has also worked for the Disney Store, Disney Jr., Lands End, Walmart, Leap Frog, and Hallmark, among other notable brands. James made his cinematic debut in the short film titled “Young Yuna.” Additionally, she appears alongside Julia Roberts in the Amazon Original series “Homecoming” and the Facebook Watch series “Five Points.” She can be observed in the F.B.E. series “Kids React” on YouTube.
James’s performance as Ami on the Netflix series “Family Reunion,” in which award-winning actresses Lorretta Devine and Tia Mowry also appear, is widely recognized. In addition to her role as the youngest sibling in a family relocating from a major metropolitan area to the South, the series addresses numerous contemporary family concerns such as bereavement, economic instability, and racial inequity. Due to its wholesome subject matter, the program has become a Netflix favorite after three seasons. At the 52nd National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (N.A.A.C.P.) Image Awards in 2021, it was presented with the Image Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
