After gaining extensive attention for her reputation as a strict, ‘no-nonsense’ judge, Blum first rose to entertainment prominence when she was featured on a segment of CBS’s “60 Minutes.” She subsequently accepted a role on the reality courtroom television series “Judge Judy.” The programme, which ran for a total of 25 seasons, was a success and cemented her position as a reality television royalty. After passing the bar exam in 1965, she worked as a corporate attorney and then as a prosecutor in New York, where she handled cases involving juvenile court and child abuse. After becoming a judge in the criminal court in 1982, Blum was promoted to the position of supervising judge in the family court. What began as a 1993 article in the “Los Angeles Times” ultimately launched the judge’s television career.

Blum’s appearance on C.B.S.’s ’60 Minutes’ was so impressive that she eventually received her own reality court programme, ‘Judge Judy’ (1996). Blum presided over actual cases during the 25-season run of the programme. Blum was quickly ranked among the top twenty wealthiest women in the entertainment industry by “Forbes” in 2007. In a 2013 “Reader’s Digest” poll, she was voted as one of the most reputable justices in the United States. In 2021, following the conclusion of the original series, a spin-off of “Judge Judy” was released. In “Judy Justice,” the renowned judge appears in another courtroom series.

Blum has written a number of publications, including “Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining” (1996) and “Beauty Fades, Dumb is Forever” (1999). Blum was married to prosecutor Ronald Levy from 1964 to 1976, with whom she has two children, Jamie and Adam. After marrying Judge Jerry Sheindlin in 1977, she divorced him in 1990 and remarried a year later.
