Kailasavadivoo Sivan Early Years

Kailasavadivoo Sivan was raised in the Vallankumaranvilai (Mela Sarakkalvilai Village, Kanyakumari) Tamil Nadu, India. His birth date is April 14, 1957. Sivan’s father, Kailasavadivoondar Sivan, is a farmer.

She is Chellamall Sivan, his mother. He attended the Tamil Medium School in his hometown. In addition, he enrolled in the Madras Institute of Technology’s Engineering Course. Then, he successfully enrolled at the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bengaluru, to pursue a Master of Engineering.

In 2006, he received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. In addition, he completed fellowships with the Aeronautical Society of India, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the System Society of India.

K Sivan Career

Sivan worked for Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the design and development of launch vehicles. In 1982, Sivan joined ISRO to work on the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) Project. He was appointed as the director of ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre on 2 July 2014.[9] In April 2014, he received a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Sathyabama University in Chennai. He was appointed director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre on 1 June 2015.

Sivan was designated ISRO chief in January 2018, and he assumed his position on January 15. Under his leadership, ISRO launched Chandrayaan 2, the second mission to the moon, on 22 July 2019; the Vikram lander and Pragyan (rover) crashed, while the orbiter was unaffected and continued to orbit the moon as of January 2022.

His chairmanship was extended by one year, until January 2022, on 30 December 2020. His previous term ended in January 2021.

On 25 January 2021, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) filed a complaint against Dr. K. Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space (DoS), alleging irregularities in the recruitment of his son at ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram.
