Karan Johar Biography: Karan Johar (born Rahul Kumar Johar on May 25, 1972) is an Indian filmmaker and television personality who predominantly works in Hindi cinema. He is commonly referred to as KJo in the Hindi Film Industry. His Dharma Productions has launched the careers of several successful actors. In 2020, the Government of India will present him with Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honour. Early Life

Johar was born in Mumbai, India, on May 25, 1972, to film producer Yash Johar, the creator of Dharma Productions, and Hiroo Johar. On his father’s side, he has Punjabi Hindu ancestry, and on his mother’s side, he has Sindhi Hindu ancestry. He attended Green Lawns High School. After graduating from Green Lawns, he enrolled at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai. His maternal brothers, Yash and B. R. Chopra, were both filmmakers. His first cousins on his mother’s side are Uday and Aditya Chopra.

Johar began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor, portraying Shrikant in the Doordarshan television series Indradhanush in 1989. He cites Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra, and Sooraj R. Barjatya as his childhood influences. Johar followed numerology for a time, devising film titles in which the first word and several others began with the letter K. Johar decided to discontinue this practice after viewing the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which was critical of numerology.

In 1998, Johar made his directorial début with the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 1998, the film won eight Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and all four awards for Best Actor, both for lead and supporting roles. 2001 saw the release of Johar’s second directorial endeavour, the family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
