Marx was forced to leave Germany after the authorities did not approve of his writings.

Marx wed Jenny von Westphalen, a childhood sweetheart, in 1843. In 1844, a pivotal year in Marx’s life, he relocated to France and there met Friedrich Engels, who would become a lifelong companion and collaborator. However, the French government was so offended by his writings that they had him deported. After spending time in France, Belgium, and Germany between 1845 and 1849, he finally arrived in London in 1849.
