Kenneth Arnold Chesney was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to elementary school teacher David Chesney and hairdresser Karen Chandler. There is a sibling named Jennifer Chandler. Soon thereafter, he taught himself to play the instrument. Then, he attended East Tennessee State University to study advertising.
