After seeing “The Treacherous Three,” he developed an interest in hip-hop, and at the age of ten, he began rapping. Upon seeing L.L. Cool J’s aptitude, his grandfather gifted him a set of turntables, an audio mixer, an amplifier, and additional apparatus, totaling $2,000. He produced and mixed demos using the equipment before sending them to record labels in New York. Russell Simons and Rick Robin own Def Jam, where L.L. Cool J was later signed. For this rising celebrity, whose stage name is L.L. Cool J, which stands for “Ladies Love Cool James,” it was time for a change.

Career

His first hit, “I Need A Beat,” which was a commercial hit in 1984, launched him to stardom. The next year saw the publication of his debut album, “Radio,” which greatly increased his level of fame. The album sold over 500,000 copies in the United States in the first five months following its release, and over a million copies in 1988.
