As a result of his stepmother’s wickedness and cruelty, Louis was compelled to flee his home.

In 1835, Vuitton decided to relocate to Paris. Along the way, he performed a variety of odd tasks to support himself and slept in abandoned shelters. Two years were required to reach Paris. During the Industrial Revolution, he arrived in Paris and began working as an apprentice for Monsieur Marechal, a prominent trunk maker and packer. At the time, trunk manufacturing was a prestigious profession. Within a few years, Vuitton had established a reputation as one of the city’s foremost artisans.

After the reestablishment of the French Empire in 1852, Vuitton was recruited as the Empress of France’s personal trunk maker. This opportunity opened the door to more elite clients who employed him for the remainder of his tenure. Two years later, Vuitton wed Clemence-Emilie Parriaux and launched his box-making business. In 1958, he introduced an innovative trunk design that became an instant success. Parisians adored Vuitton’s designs, and his brand remained one of the most prestigious trunk manufacturers. Vuitton continued to work on his brand until his demise in 1892, when he passed his company to his son, Georges Vuitton.
