Early Life
Maria Brink was born on December 18, 1977, into a dysfunctional home in New York. Her father deserted the family during her early years. Brink became pregnant at the age of 14, which led to her discontinuing her education in high school. Following the birth of her son, Davion, she relocated to an apartment and commenced employment at a nearby laundromat to maintain financial stability. Brink became a member of her inaugural musical group, Pulse, situated in Albany, New York, in 1995. The band mostly served as the opening act for local performances including bands such as Coal Chamber and Sevendust. However, the band members eventually disbanded.
Career
At the age of 25 in 2002, she relocated from California to Los Angeles in pursuit of her significant opportunity. During the process of looking for a band, Brink held employment in retail establishments and sang vocally in coffee shops and bars. After two years, she encountered Chris Howorth, who is currently a member of the band, at an audition. Howorth declined to audition her due to her gender.
However, he promptly reconsidered his decision and expressed remorse towards her upon listening to her singing. They established the band, which they named Dying Stars, together with drummer Jeff Fabb. Guitarist Blake Bunzel and bassist Josh Newell subsequently joined the band. Following two performances, the musical group decided to alter their name to In This Moment.
