Early Years

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York. His father is a dentist, while his mother is a psychiatrist. His sisters are Randi, Donna, and Arielle. Mark and his sisters were raised in Dobbs Ferry, Westchester County, New York. His 12th birthday Bar Mitzvah had a “Star Wars” theme.

Zuckerberg began using computers and writing software in middle school. In the 1990s, his father instructed him in BASIC programming, and later he was tutored privately by software developer David Newman.

Zuckerberg attended his freshman and sophomore years at Ardsley High School. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy for his junior and senior years, where he excelled academically and won awards in physics, mathematics, astronomy, and classical studies.

He was captain of the fencing squad at Phillip Exeter Academy. While in high school, he took a BASIC course at the graduate level at Mercy College. In addition, he created a software programme called “ZuckNet” that connected the computers in the Zuckerbergs’ household to those in his father’s dental office. It functioned similarly to AOL’s Instant Messenger, which debuted the year after Mark established ZuckNet. In high school, Zuckerberg also created a music player dubbed the Synapse Media Player. The media device figured out the user’s listening preferences. AOL attempted to acquire Synapse and employ Zuckerberg. Microsoft also submitted bids in the millions of dollars for Synapse and attempted to employ Zuckerberg. In the autumn of 2002, he chose not to sell and matriculated at Harvard.

Career

The Social Network is a film about Mr Zuckerberg and the creation of Facebook.

Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster and founding president of Facebook, was a close companion of Mark Zuckerberg. There are seventy distinct languages available to Facebook users. Mr. Zuckerberg has red-green colour blindness and sees blue best, which explains why blue predominates Facebook’s colour palette.

Even his “Beast”-named dog has a Facebook account. Mr Zuckerberg once turned down a $1 billion offer from Yahoo to acquire Facebook.

In 2010, he studied Chinese so that he could communicate effectively with the Chinese relatives of his fiancée. Through his foundation, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), Mr Mark Zuckerberg has supported numerous philanthropic causes, such as donating $100 million to the struggling Newark Public Schools system in New Jersey.

Net worth

Due to the failure of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, co-founder and chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg has incurred significant personal losses. In just six hours, his net worth decreased by $7 billion (approximately Rs 55,217 crores), and he dropped one spot on the list of billionaires. Current Mark Zuckerberg Net Worth is 47.20 Billion USD

Salary

Mark Zuckerberg’s annual remuneration is $1. This is not an error. Numerous executives, such as Zuckerberg, choose to pay themselves low compensation in order to maximise the company’s profits. When a company maximises profits, the overall value of its stock holdings increases, which is the source of the executive’s genuine wealth.

Personal Life

When applying to college, Zuckerberg indicated that he could read and write French, Hebrew, Latin, and ancient Greek.

During his sophomore year at Harvard, Zuckerberg met his future wife, fellow student Priscilla Chan, at a fraternity gathering. In 2003 they began dating.

Zuckerberg invited Chan, who was then a medical student at the University of California, to relocate into his rented Palo Alto home in September 2010. On May 19, 2012, Zuckerberg and Chan were married in Zuckerberg’s backyard, where they also celebrated Chan’s medical school graduation. Zuckerberg announced the birth of their daughter, Maxima Chan Zuckerberg (“Max”), on December 1, 2015. In August 2017, they welcomed their second daughter, August.

Zuckerberg and Chan are active benefactors through their foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and members of The Giving Pledge. The couple intends to donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares to the Initiative in the future.

Assets

Zuckerberg and Chan own approximately $200 million worth of global real estate and land. Their notable real estate holdings consist of 1,400 acres in Hawaii, several residences in Palo Alto, and a townhouse in San Francisco.

Mark Zuckerberg purchased a modest 5,000 square foot residence in Palo Alto for $7 million in 2011 where he and his family reside. However, he also owns the homes surrounding this “modest” residence, establishing a private compound. In 2012, Zuckerberg began purchasing the four properties surrounding his residence. He spent a total of $43 million purchasing surrounding properties. Then, he leased the properties back to their original proprietors with the intention of eventually demolishing and rebuilding them. However, city officials rejected his proposal, so he submitted a revised plan to renovate two of the homes and reconstruct the other two as single-story homes.

In 2013, he purchased a 5,500-square-foot condominium in San Francisco for $10 million. The 1928-built home stands on a 9,800-square-foot lot with a 70-foot sidewalk frontage. He spent over $1,600,000 renovating the home. Supposedly $65,000 if the kitchen and one restroom were renovated.

Zuckerberg purchased two properties in Kauai, Hawaii, for $100 million in 2014. These properties encompass a secluded 750-acre stretch of a Hawaiian coastline. He acquired an additional 89 acres nearby for over $45 million. In January of 2022, he acquired an additional 100 acres, bringing his total land holdings on Kauai to 1,400 acres.

In 2018, Zuckerberg spent $59 million on two adjacent Lake Tahoe private waterfront estates. Between his two properties, Zuckerberg possesses 600 feet of private lakefront on Lake Tahoe.
