Matty Healy Birthday

Matthew Timothy Healy was born in Manchester, England, on April 8, 1989, to actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy. His parents had frequent social interactions with actors and musicians when he was a child. At age four, Healy began playing percussion with his father and developed an appreciation for music. His parents divorced in 2012, and his mother began courting Lincoln Townley, whom she eventually married. He grew up with his younger sibling Louis in Newcastle and Cheshire. Inspired by him, his sibling currently plays music on YouTube. In 2004, Healy and his friends Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann, and George Daniel began jamming at Wilmslow High School. They began by covering punk rock and pop songs before beginning to write their own at age 15.

Healy was the band’s primary lyricist and was responsible for its distinctive style and moving lyrics. Before settling on the name The 1975, they performed as Me and You Versus Them, Drive As I Do, TALKHOUSE!, and The Big Sleep while managed by Jamie Oborne. Healy exhibited weak academic performance and graduated with three G.C.S.E.s. He saw education as an impediment to his music and did not wish to pursue further education. His mother urged him to attend Music College, but he dropped out after only three months. He was occupied with composing and supplemented his income by working in a Chinese restaurant. During this time, he developed a cocaine addiction that was difficult to overcome. Healy initially played the percussion for The 1975. After the lead singer of the band left to form his own band, he assumed the roles of lead vocalist and guitarist. Hann was the main guitarist, while MacDonald and Daniel played the bass and drums, respectively. Facedown, their debut EP, was released in 2012 and played on national radio, with ‘The City’ becoming a smash success on BBC Radio 1. They played music for recreation rather than as a profession. Consequently, their initial success was a surprise to them. However, the response from their fans motivated them to pursue their endeavours with greater dedication. In the same year as the release of their second EP, the single ‘Chocolate’ peaked at number 19 on the U.K. Singles Chart. The 1975 had already made a name for themselves and were preparing to release their debut album.

Their self-titled debut album was released in 2013 and topped the U.K. Albums Chart. It featured a revamped version of their single “Sex,” which debuted on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 programme. It also made its debut on YouTube and quickly gained a substantial fan base. Concurrently, Healy and his bandmates began a tour of Ireland and the United States to publicise the album.

They also toured the United Kingdom and performed at the Royal Albert Hall, among other venues. 2013 also saw them performing at the Reading and Leeds Festival. On social media, there were erroneous rumours that the band had disbanded in the interim. Their second and third albums, “I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet Unaware of It” and “Music for Cars,” continued to be commercially successful. Both albums topped the U.K. Albums Chart and the U.S. Billboard 200 charts. Each composition on the albums was performed in a distinctive manner, setting them apart from their contemporaries. The ensemble produced a digital music video for their favourite song, ‘The Sound,’ in 2016.
