He was born in Hounslow, London, but spent the majority of his childhood on Long Island, New York, United States of America. His parents are of Trinidadian and Zimbabwean descent. In the 1980s, he and his younger brother, D.J. Subroc, founded the hip-hop group K.M.D. and signed with Elektra Records during his teenage years.
