Michael Kirk Douglas was born on September 25, 1944, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The actors Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill, who met at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, had him as their first child. He has two half-brothers from his father’s side. Douglas is an American citizen by birth, but he also possesses dual British and Bermudian citizenship through his mother, who is from Devon Parish, Bermuda.

Douglas attended The Allen-Stevenson School in New York City, Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and Choate Rosemary Hall (formerly known as The Choate Preparatory School) in Wallingford, Connecticut for his formal education. He then attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in drama in 1968. Douglas’s first television role was in the CBS-TV special “The Experiment” in 1969. In the late 1960s, he also began his film career with roles in films such as “Hail, Hero!” (1969). Actually, he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Most Promising Male Newcomer for his performance in “Hail, Hero!” When he was selected in the television series “The Streets of San Francisco,” which he starred in from 1972 to 1976, a turning point in his early career occurred. On the program, he co-starred with Karl Malden, who became an influential mentor for him. They maintained a close relationship until Malden’s passing in 2009.

In 1975, his father granted him the rights to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Ken Kesey. Douglas utilised this opportunity to produce a film with the same title alongside Saul Zaentz. The Academy Award for Best Picture went to Douglas for his work on the film. Following his departure from “The Streets of San Francisco,” Douglas appeared in the 1978 and 1979 films “Coma” and “Running,” respectively. Douglas remained active in the new millennium, appearing in films such as “Traffic” (2000), “Wonder Boys” (2000), and “Don’t Say a Word” (2001). “It Runs in the Family” (2003) is a significant film from this era.

Luker filed for divorce from Douglas in 1995, and as part of their divorce settlement, she received $45 million.

In March 1999, he began dating actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and they wed in November 2000. They are 25 years apart in age. They have two children together, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta. In 2013, they momentarily separated but have since reconciled.

Michael’s Assets

Douglas possesses a valuable portfolio of global real estate assets. One of his most remarkable properties is S’Estaca, a 250-acre estate on the coast of Spain that he purchased in 1990 for $3.5 million (equivalent to approximately $6 million today). At one stage in 2014, he put the property up for sale for $60 million but was unable to sell it. He relisted it for $32 million in June 2019. It is lawfully co-owned by Diandra, Michael’s ex-wife. The property was ultimately withdrawn from the market.

He formerly possessed a 13-acre property in Westchester County, New York. Micheal purchased the property for $11.3 million in 2015 and sold it for $20.5 million in 2019. He paid $4.5 million for an 11,000-square-foot, 12-acre estate in Irvington, New York, at the time of the sale.

Additionally, he possesses a large apartment in New York City with breathtaking views of Central Park.

Michael listed his Bermuda residence for sale in June 2019 for $10.6 million but ultimately removed it from the market.
