Miss Rhode Biography: Mary Malloy, 26 years old from Cumberland, Rhode Island, was crowned Miss Rhode Island USA 2023 on May 28 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium (The Vets) in Providence. Mary competed against 45 inspiring and accomplished young women from across the state of Rhode Island; upon receiving the crown, her desire came true. She was crowned Miss Rhode Island Teen USA 2015 and is excited to represent her state at the national Miss USA competition.

Miss Rhode Education

Mary is a graduate of Emerson College, where she studied Business and Broadcast Journalism. Mary is a Program Manager at Amazon Web Services, where she composes a weekly internal newsletter for a 68,000-person audience. Mary volunteers with Best Buddies and Crisis Textline in her spare time. Mary, who enjoys writing, authored and published a coloring book for children titled “Millie’s Many Emotions.” Her work as a freelance entertainment journalist has appeared in The Hollywood Reporter. Her ambition is to become an Entertainment Reporter.

During her reign, Mary intends to provide Rhode Islanders with free resources to improve their mental health. Mary is a volunteer Crisis Counselor for a suicide hotline and is deeply committed to combating the stigma associated with seeking assistance. Mary’s greatest pastime for the past ten years has been pageants; she would love to return to future Miss Rhode Island USA pageants to teach contestants how to navigate stress using the tools she employs as a Crisis Counselor. She also intends to collaborate with the Rhode Island chapter of Best Buddies to raise funds for local chapters. Mary began volunteering with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 2012, and she remains an active Best Buddies volunteer to this day.

Mary’s pageant experience this year was even more memorable. She competed in the Miss Rhode Island USA pageant alongside her sister, and her cousin competed in the concurrent Miss Rhode Island Teen USA pageant. They would meet weekly at a local dance studio to practice their routines and conduct simulated job interviews. Mary will never forget the time she competed alongside her family.

Mary is privileged to once again represent Rhode Island at a national pageant, this time Miss USA 2023. Please follow Mary as she utilizes her voice and actions to affect change.
