Morris Lamont Chestnut, the multifaceted American actor, was born in Cerritos, California, on January 1, 1969, to Shirley (Wynn) and Morris Chestnut, Sr. In 1986, he graduated from Richard Gahr High School. Afterward, Chestnut majored in both drama and finance at Cal State Northridge. He has a son, Grant Chestnut, and a daughter, Paige Chestnut. He is married to Pam Chestnut. While he was in Atlanta for a movie shoot, the two first met in a club.

Career

In 1990, Chestnut made his acting debut in the short-lived episode “A Family Affair” of the horror anthology “Freddy’s Nightmares—A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Series,” where he played Jason Woodman. The show was a spin-off of the same-titled supernatural horror movie from 1984. The following year, Chestnut made his big-screen debut in the teen drama “Boyz n the Hood,” where he played the lead role of Ricky Baker. He had a brief cameo appearance in the action-comedy “The Last Boy Scout” that same year.

In addition, Chestnut appeared in Patti LaBelle’s brief sitcom “Out All Night,” and his career was progressing apace. In 1999, Chestnut portrayed a professional football player on the eve of his wedding in the film “The Best Man,” costarring Taye Diggs and Nia Long. “The Best Man” performed well at the box office and received favorable reviews from the media. Chestnut was nominated for an N.A.A.C.P. Image Award for his performance.

The films “Takers,” “When the Bough Breaks,” and “Not Easily Broken” were all produced by him. In addition, he directed the 2014 short film “Breakdown” and produced the television series “Stage Black.”
