Early Years

On May 10, 1981, Namitha was born into a Punjabi-speaking Kapoor family in Surat, Gujarat, India. She is the only daughter in her family, which comprises a businessman father and a housewife mother. Namitha has an English Literature degree. She used to instruct small children in swimming and was raised in Bombay.

She first came to public attention in 1998, when she was crowned Miss Surat. Namitha went on to compete in the 2001 Miss India competition, where she placed fourth runner-up, while Celina Jaitley was crowned Miss India.

Career

Television

In 2007, Namitha made her début as a child actress on the television programme Amme Devi, in which she portrayed Devi. She then appeared in a number of other television programmes, including Vellankanni Mathavu (2007), Ente Manasaputhri (2007), Ente Manasaputhri (2008), and Ulladakkum (2008).

Film

Namitha made her film début in 2011 with the Malayalam movie Traffic. She played the leading character of Thamara in the 2012 film Puthiya Theerangal. She has since appeared in numerous Malayalam films, including Sound Thoma (2013), En Kaadhal Pudhithu (2014), Villali Veeran (2014), Adi Kapyare Koosamani, Kammara Sambhavam (2018), Al Mallu (2020), and Margamkali (2019).

In the 2022 Malayalam film Esho directed by Nadeershah, Namitha portrayed the lead role of Advocate Aswathy.

She earned the Asianet Film Award for Best Actress in 2013 for her performance in the Malayalam film Ormayundo Ee Mukham (2014).

Politics

On April 24, 2016, in Trichy, in the presence of party general secretary and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Namitha joined AIADMK.[25]In 2019, Namitha joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Chennai alongside actor Radha Ravi in the presence of the party’s national president J. P. Nadda. In July 2020, eight months after joining the BJP, appointed as a member of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state executive.
