Susan Wojcicki announced in a blog post today that she will be leaving YouTube after nine years at the helm of the world’s largest online video platform.
She stated that YouTube’s chief product officer, Neal Mohan, will be the new YouTube CEO.
Neal Mohan has served as Senior Vice President at Google and Chief Product Officer at YouTube, an online video-sharing platform and subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. Between March 2008 and November 2015, he served as Google’s Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads. Before joining Google, he held the position of senior vice president of strategy and product development at DoubleClick, an internet ad serving services company that Google acquired in 2007. Mr. Mohan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Mr. Mohan serves as a director for the private company 23andMe. Mr. Mohan is a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business’s management board and the Internet Advertising Bureau’s and Mobile Marketing Association’s boards of directors.
Wojcicki has maintained an extremely cordial working relationship with the future CEO of YouTube. The two began collaborating in Google’s display advertising business for the first time. Mohan has been Wojcick’s number two resource since 2015. After the news broke, the CEO of Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, not only praised Wojcicki’s legacy but also congratulated Mohan, her successor. “Susan has assembled an exceptional team, and in Neal she has a successor who is ready to lead YouTube into its next decade of success,” Pichai said in a statement.
Since 2020, 47-year-old Neal Mohan has been the Independent Director of Stitch Fix Inc. Stitch Fix Inc. has 11 older and 7 younger executives. Independent Director Marka Hansen, aged 67, is the senior-most executive at Stitch Fix Inc.
Neal Mohan received a Bachelor of Science in 1996 from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration in 2005 from Stanford Business School.
